Trial Overview
William Siborne stands accused by some
modern historians of a crime against history in that he distorted
the truth of history either for financial gain or due to pressure
from Wellington and others. Siborne is long dead but his reputation
is challenged by these recent books written about the battle.
Siborne cannot defend himself and he may be completely innocent
of the charges made against him.
Did Siborne alter his model and his history
of the battle in exchange for money?
Did Siborne buckle under pressure from
Wellington and others to remove the Prussians from his model
in order make it look more like a British victory than it
would otherwise have done?
Or was it that Siborne was convinced after
much debate and study that the Prussians were not that much
involved in the final victory and that it was overwhelmingly
a British victory with limited Prussian support?
Are the more recent books right on these
points or is Siborne more accurate in his history?
